Roz Purcell to take Dave Fanning's old slot in 2FM shake-up alongside familiar co-presenter

Roz Purcell is joining 2FM as the station is launching a new schedule in the wake of Dave Fanning leaving his long-running weekend slot.

The author and founder of The Hike Life will be co-presenting from 12pm to 3pm alongside Emma Power.

They previously took over from The 2 Johnnies on 2FM’s Drive It for three weeks last June.

It comes as the station is shaking things up by introducing listeners to a host of new voices.

Friday nights will see popular broadcaster Blathnaid Treacy continue to show off Ireland’s biggest hits with The National Chart Show from 7pm to 9pm.

Following her, DJ Mo-K will play rap and hip-hop anthems until 11pm before DJ Wax takes over for a late-night slot through to 1am.

RTE Choice Music Prize presenter Blathnaid will be back in the studio early on Saturday morning from 7am to 9am to kick-start the day with her show 2FM Breakfast with Blathnaid Treacy. Laura Fox will take over from 9am until midday.

Legendary 2FM DJ Jenny Greene returns for her iconic show The Electric Disco at the earlier time of 6pm. Dan Healy, Head of RTE Digital Audio and RTE 2FM, said: “The weekend schedule is a blend of emerging and new voices to Irish radio.

“The exciting thing about our emerging voices is they are homegrown.

“Laura Fox, Emma Power and Aifric O Connell have been on 2FM for the last number of years and also broadcast for RTE Pulse and RTE 2XM.

“We are thrilled Roz is joining the weekend team, broadcasting with Emma Power.”

Earlier in the week, Dave Fanning announced he was stepping away from his weekend show on 2FM but will continue broadcasting on digital radio, on TV and online.

He has presented the Dave Fanning Show since May 1979.

In an Instagram post he said: “I’ve been thinkin’ ’bout this for the past few years and have decided to step back from my weekend show on 2FM to spread the word of Fanning on the digital empire.”
