A Royston restauranteur has been recognised at the Asian Curry Awards.

Safwaan Choudhury, managing director of British Raj Express, was named National Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

His establishment British Raj Express, opposite Royston station, was also recognised as best takeaway in the East, and was highly commended in the national Best Takeaway category.

He said: “I’m surprised but naturally proud to receive this recognition. I am humbled by the continued support of our customers, friends and family who have been behind me all the way.”

Mr Choudhury, 22, said: “People like me in this line of business, we aren’t doing it for recognition or to make a huge amount of money, we do it because this is what we enjoy.

“I am happy to be doing a job I love whilst making a difference in my community; I hope this will inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and restaurateurs.”
