Royals 'skipped catch up with Harry and Meghan after boozy Jubilee lunch overran'

A "celebratory boozy" lunch during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations overran and caused several royals to miss out on a catch-up with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, it is claimed.

The Sussexes travelled from their home in California to the UK for the celebrations last month and on the first day of the extended bank holiday weekend attended Trooping the Colour.

They were seen watching the military parade through a window from a building overlooking Horse Guards Parade, with Meghan pictured playfully shushing some of the younger royals.

After the parade and carriage procession, there was a balcony appearance by working royals before a spectacular flypast by the RAF, which included the famous Red Arrows.

Non-working royals gathered on the roof of St James' Palace to watch the flypast, as documented on Princess Eugenie's Instagram account, before several of them joined together to for lunch.

But according to a report by royal expert Camilla Tominey in the Telegraph, Harry and Meghan did not join the likes of Princess Beatrice, Eugenie, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips for the flypast and lunch - and instead hot-footed it back to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before the Red Arrows appearance.

The publication reports that the cousins had planned to go to Windsor to see Harry and Meghan later that day at their UK home - but the "celebratory" lunch carried on much longer than planned.

An insider said: "It was quite boozy and went on well into the early evening, by which point there was no time to get to Windsor to see the Sussexes."

It comes after husband of Harry's cousin Zara, Mike Tindall, previously lifted the lid on the cousins' lunch during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Appearing on his podcast The Good, The Bad and The Rugby, Mike named it one of the highlights of the four-day celebration.

Asked about the Jubilee, he said: "Lovely weekend. It was outstanding to be fair, it was just great to be a part of.”

Quizzed about the most special moments, he revealed: "We had a good cousin’s lunch on Thursday, that was a highlight.

"Outside of that, the concert was very very cool. Going for the Derby for the first time ever was a unique experience and one that I enjoyed."

Meanwhile, it was later reported that Mike called Harry a "b***end" during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

A source overheard the former English rugby player referring to the Duke of Sussex's behaviour as that of a "b***end".

He made the comment to a fellow guest at a reception held after the televised Platinum Party concert at Buckingham Palace on June 4, as first reported by the Daily Express.

It came after Harry and Meghan were notably absent from all of the Jubilee events, apart from a thanksgiving service held the day before the concert and Trooping the Colour.
