Royals pitcher Josh Staumont expertly (and luckily) kicked the ball to his first baseman to get a wild out

Kansas City Royals pitcher Josh Staumont helped get one of the coolest outs of the season last night with a quick move that was so smooth and so lucky at the same time.

Staumont was facing Cleveland’s Franmil Reyes when the right fielder hit a hard grounder up the middle that banged off Staumont’s right foot and then traveled through the air all the way into Carlos Santana’s glove, who was able to tag Reyes for the out.

Now, did Staumont do this on purpose? Maybe? Instincts probably kicked in (no pun intended) to deflect the ball but he never could have imagined seeing it play out this way:

Pretty awesome.

And pretty lucky.
