Royal Variety under fire as fans cringe at Sir Rod Stewart's 'painful' performance

Sir Rod Stewart came under fire after his performance on tonight's Royal Variety.

The 76-year-old was a part of the line-up on tonight's ITV broadcast as the world's longest running entertainment show celebrated ts 150th anniversary.

The rock legend was a part of a star-studded evening at the Royal Albert Hall as exceptional performers from the world' of theatre, music and comedy united to raise funds for The Queen's Royal Variety Charity.

The 109th edition was hosted by Alan Carr, who introduced acts such as James Blunt, Ed Sheeran and Elvis Costello.

Sir Rod's performance took to the stage during the broadcast to perform his hit track 'One more Time'.

However, fans following the routine on Twitter said they were left cringing after the performance.

Stu said: "Rod Stewart was so cringe. He needs to stop now."

Sue added: "Just catching up how cringe is Rod now."

Bud commented: "Rod Stewart. Time to retire now, that was painful"

Fay posted: "Rod you don’t have to do this, you’re worth 300 million hun, just retire and enjoy yourself."

Nic said: "Rod Stewart....I literally have no words for that performance"

John posted: "Awful song by Rod , monotonous all the way through"
