Royal Variety Performance host pokes fun at Prince William and Kate Middleton's kids

Romesh Ranganathan poked fun at Prince William and Kate Middleton's kids at the Royal Variety Performance.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge watched the yearly entertainment show, which was filmed at the end of November in the London Palladium, from the royal box.

They got to watch a host of talent perform for the audience, including Britan's Got Talent winner Colin Thackery and singer Lewis Capaldi.

But they probably did not expect comedian Romesh, who was presenting the show with Rob Beckett, to take aim at their children.

Romesh joked about the royal couple having "regrets" over bringing future king Prince George and his siblings Charlotte and Louis into the world.

Romesh said: "Like me you’re blessed with three kids. I imagine every morning they come running into your bedroom and you look at their beautiful faces and say, 'I regret this'."

The pair burst out laughing - and viewers praised the royals for 'having to force laughter' as the comedians poked fun at them.

In another gag aimed at their parenting, Rob joked about Wills and Kate having to find a babysitter.

He sad: "Thank you for coming out tonight. You’re on date night. That's exciting. You got the babysitter until midnight or 1am? It's worth that extra 20 quid."

The comedian then did a strange bow while Romesh as introducing the royal pair like at the end of a pantomime.

Introducing the royals, Rob said: "We are also joined by some special royal guest tonight. I’m really excited about the royal party being here. I’ve been doing research. I went to Hampton Court Palace for 10 hours. I got lost in the maze."

Rob claimed he couldn't carry on with the introductions as "Duchess" sounds too much like what he would shout when he used to work down at the markets.

Praising the royals for sitting through the performance, one viewer sad: "Poor Kate and William....for having to sit through one of the poorest Royal Variety Shows I've ever seen. With the exception of a few acts, it's been drivel. I miss stars like Jimmy Tarbuck and Morecambe and Wise....true entertainers and naturally funny!"

"Utterly crap and embarrassing poor Wills and Kate having to endure it all night," added another.

A third agreed: "Is this meant to be entertaining .... at least we can switch it off - feel sorry for William and Kate!"

However, there were some viewers that did find Rob and Romesh's jokes funny.

"@robbeckettcomic and @RomeshRanga and absolutely hilarious opening the #RoyalVarietyPerformance crying," said one viewer.

Another added: "Fully LOVE Romesh + Rob hosting #RoyalVarietyPerformance," added another.
