Royal Variety Performance 2022 line-up, date, start time and how to watch on TV

The Royal Variety Performance is set to air tonight, as some of the world’s most talented entertainers take to the stage at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The annual event is always a star-studded occasion as a host of singers, comedians and actors perform for senior members of the Royal Family.

The event is staged in aid of the Royal Variety Charity – of which King Charles is a patron – with the money raised helping people from the world of entertainment in need of care and assistance. This will be the first Royal Variety Performance since the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September and will be attended by her youngest child, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

The first event took place in 1912 which makes it the longest-running entertainment show in the world, according to its website.

Who will be performing?

This year’s Royal Variety Performance promises yet another star-studded occasion, with renowned musicians, comedians and entertainers set to appear. The event was recorded on December 1, with award-winning comedian and actor Lee Mack taking on hosting duties.

In honour of the Queen’s long association with the event, there will be a unique celebration as world-renowned composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, Take That’s Gary Barlow and choirmaster Gareth Malone perform a special version of Sing accompanied by members of the London Youth Choir. The song was first performed during the late monarch’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
