In a tragic incident at the Royal Swedish Opera, a stage technician lost his life after falling from a balcony while carrying out work inside the building. The incident, which occurred last year, resulted in a fine of 3 million kronor ($300,000) being imposed on the opera house.
The investigation into the fatal fall revealed that it was deemed a 'work environment violation' by Prosecutor Jennie Nordin. Nordin highlighted that the death of the stage technician could have been prevented, as the Royal Swedish Opera had failed to properly assess and address the risks associated with the task at hand.
The stage worker, identified as Petter Sundelin, aged 57, tragically passed away after falling approximately 13 meters (over 40 feet) on September 21. Despite being airlifted to a hospital, Sundelin succumbed to his injuries.
Following this devastating incident, the Royal Opera took the decision to halt all performances and tours at Sweden's national theater for opera and ballet. Established in 1773, the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm is renowned for its diverse range of performances, including opera, ballet, and programs catering to children and adolescents.
