Royal pet food supplier Armitage sells its distribution centre in Colwick

A warehouse used by Nottinghamshire pet food giant Armitage Pet Care has been sold after the company outsourced its storage and distribution operation.

The Colwick-headquartered firm is the Queen's official pet food supplier and produces brands including Good Boy, Wafcol and Wild Bird.

Its 51,610 sq ft distribution centre on the Colwick Industrial Estate has now been taken on by construction firm JRL Group.

JRL already has a base on the estate and the purchase of the warehouse will facilitate its expansion in Nottingham.

Ian Muxlow, director in the commercial team at Savills Nottingham, said: "Situated in a well-established commercial location and providing excellent access to the A612 Colwick Loop Road, the former Armitage Distribution Centre presented the purchaser with an excellent opportunity to continue to grow its business within the local area.

"From launch to completion the sale took just three months, demonstrating the strong demand for industrial stock within Nottingham. Sizeable available freehold units remain a rare occurrence, which is why we managed to secure a good price on behalf of our client."

Mr Muxlow added Armitage had chosen to sell the site as it outsourced its storage and distribution to a third party in Nottingham.

Armitage's history can be traced back as far as 1775 and it was granted a Royal Warrant in 1796.

As well as food the company supplies treats and toys.

According to the firm's latest accounts, for the year ended June 2018, it has a turnover of £36.8 million and reported a profit of £430,000.
