Royal Mint to release historic set of Brexit coins - here's how to get them

The Royal Mint has unveiled the new commemorative 50p coin to mark Britain's departure from the EU at 11pm on Friday, January 31.

The coins bear the inscription "Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations" and the date of January 31.

About three million Brexit coins will enter circulation around the UK from Friday, with a further seven million to be added later in the year.

As part of the launch of the coin, the Royal Mint will open its doors for 24 hours to let people strike their own commemorative Brexit coins.

The coin will be available as gold and silver Proof editions, as well as a Brilliant Uncirculated edition and as part of a two-coin historic set.

In addition, a number of gold Sovereigns will be struck on the day and these particular coins will feature a portcullis privy mark.
