Royal Mail posties can now collect parcels from Scots' front doors in new service

Posties will now be able to collect parcels at your front door as well as deliver them under a new initiative.

The Parcel Collect service from Royal Mail has been described as the “biggest shake up to daily delivery since the launch of the postbox in 1852”.

Scots must notify Royal Mail to say that they require a postie to collect a parcel in advance of them heading round to the address on their daily round.

Booking slots for the service can be done up to five days in advance and up to midnight the day before.

The service will cost 72p a parcel in addition to postage costs and will be available from Monday to Saturday.

Shoppers will be able to use Parcel Collect to return items they have purchased online at 60p per item.

Posties can collect up to five parcels at an address under the new service.

Parcels can weigh up to 20kg and be of a maximum size of 61cm x 46cm x 46cm.

The roll-out of Parcel Collect comes after a successful trial of the scheme in certain postcode areas in the west of England.

Nick Landon, Chief Commercial Officer at Royal Mail, said: “Royal Mail Parcel Collect is a fantastic step forward for all of our customers. It makes it easier to use our services than ever before.

“Whether you’re up against time and working from home, making a return, selling online or sending a gift to make someone’s day, Royal Mail Parcel Collect is here to help.

“The launch of Parcel Collect is part of our commitment to continuously make our services better and more convenient.”
