Royal Mail looking for Glaswegians for Christmas jobs over festive period

Royal Mail have started its recruitment drive to hire 20,000 people across the UK to work over the festive period.

"During a single shift, you could sort over a million items with your team! It’s a very important role so flexibility, commitment and enthusiasm are key."

On their job posting page, a statement reads: "With Christmas just around the corner, it's never been so important for us to bring people together. Socially distanced but side by side, we've been keeping the country going over the last year, and now we need you to help us deliver the Christmas magic the nation needs.

"As we get busier and busier being Santa's little helpers, we'll be reopening our temporary Christmas roles to invite people like you to play your part. Whoever you are, and wherever you come from, we want you on our team this Christmas."

The seasonal recruitment programme is said to be there in order to support the company's 85,000 permanent workers to help cope with the pressure on the postal service each year.

Royal Mail Group’s express parcel business, Parcelforce Worldwide, is also looking for additional seasonal workers.

It's Glasgow jobs include a Mail Sorter which pays £11.40 per hour and rises to £13.70 for night shifts.

Their driver roles pay similar with an hourly rate of £10.85 for those 18 years or older or £8.44 for anyone under. They also state that you can earn an additional £5.83 per hour for "Sunday premium, a weekly supplement of £26.61 (pro rata) and in some locations an area allowance is payable."

Royal Mail Chief People Officer, Zareena Brown, said "Our seasonal workforce is incredibly important to our operation and we very much look forward to welcoming those who return year after year as well as those who may be joining us for the first time.

"Being part of delivering Christmas is a brilliant experience and one that we know offers lots of opportunities for employment and engagement in the communities we serve."
