Royal Mail has introduced a big change to its service - and it starts today

In April, Royal Mail took the decision to scrap its Saturday letter delivery service in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

At the time, Royal Mail insisted that "most" parcels, as well as Special Delivery, Tracked and all non-account services, would continue to be delivered six days per week.

At the time, Shane O’Riordain, managing director of marketing, regulation and corporate affairs at Royal Mail, said: “Our postmen and postwomen are working very hard across the UK in challenging conditions.

“As we said at the start of the coronavirus crisis, there will be some disruption to services.

“We understand the importance of the postal service in keeping the UK connected at this time.

“We have also listened to our hard-working colleagues who have asked us to ease the additional burden on them if possible. As a result, we are making some temporary changes to postal services.”

However, this has now changed, and after a five-week break, Royal Mail has resumed its six-day delivery service.

Earlier this week, Royal Mail said: "We will resume the six-day-a-week delivery of letters and parcels from June 13."

In April the postal service made a number of changes in a bid "to protect the health and safety of our people and the general public".

More information about delivery services and dates can be found on the Royal Mail website.
