Royal Mail delivery offices in Lanarkshire affected by staff shortages

Royal Mail delivery offices in Lanarkshire have been impacted by staff shortages today due to workers self isolating.

The offices most impacted across the county are East Kilbride (G74, G75 and G79), Larkhall (ML9 and ML10), Motherwell (ML1) and Uddingston (G71).

Absence rates have spiked due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant which has led to a high number of cases during the Christmas and New Year period, with workers required to self-isolate if they are confirmed to have been infected.

Royal Mail apologised for the inconvenience to customers.

A statement on the Royal Mail website reads: "Deliveries are operating as normal across most of the country today.

"We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as COVID-related self-isolation, high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

"In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.

"We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.

"We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding."
