Royal Mail announces major change to US deliveries

  • Royal Mail has temporarily suspended accepting parcels for delivery to the United States.
  • This action follows a decision by the Trump administration to scrap the "de minimus" exemption, meaning commercial packages valued at or under $800 (£600) will incur customs duties from this Friday.
  • Gifts worth less than $100 (£75), along with cards and letters, will continue to be exempt from the new tariffs.
  • Royal Mail plans to launch a new service, US Postal Delivered Duties Paid, which will include a 50p handling charge per parcel to cover additional clearance costs.
  • The change is expected to significantly affect e-commerce companies exporting low-value goods to the US, with other international postal services like DHL and Australia Post also implementing similar measures.
