Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra to play open air concert at Birkenhead Park

Liverpool’s famous Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra has announced it will play a special outdoor performance this year.

The orchestra will perform at Birkenhead Park this September as part of the Wirral’s Borough of Culture celebrations.

The event joins Wirral Food and Drink Festival and Tour of Britain, which also arrive in the region this September to celebrate.

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at Birkenhead Park on Saturday, September 7 to play a programme of popular classics, show tunes and film scores.

Visitors can expect to hear music from composers such as Bizet, Lennon and McCartney, John Williams and more.

Liverpool-born mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnston will also join the orchestra at Birkenhead Park, she said:“What a delight to perform with this wonderful Orchestra in such a beautiful local setting, celebrating both the music of Merseyside and Wirral’s Borough of Culture year.

“Looking forward to seeing lots of familiar faces in the audience”.

Councillor Christine Spriggs, cabinet member for culture and tourism said: “We are thrilled that the Liverpool Philharmonic’s only outdoor concert in 2019 will take place in treasured Birkenhead Park as part of Wirral’s Borough of Culture year.

“Music lovers from Wirral and beyond will I know want to come to a very special event and make memories to last a lifetime.

“The concert is taking place during an unbelievably exciting time for the borough during the weekend of the first annual Wirral Food & Drink Festival and as we look forward to the Tour of Britain stage.

“Look out for more exciting announcements in the next few weeks about what’s happening during an Autumn to remember.”

Tickets for the concert are on sale now via www.liverpoolphil.com and cost £15 per person.
