Royal International Air Tattoo contract awarded to Gloucestershire agency

Creative content agency PinPoint Media has secured a deal to help market the world’s largest military air show, which is set to return to Gloucestershire.

The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT), which typically attracts around 150,000 attendees over three days, will take place at RAF Fairford in July, after the previous two events were cancelled due to Covid restrictions on large crowds and international travel.

Cheltenham-based PinPoint Media will handle the online, out-of-home, paid, social media and influencer marketing of the event, following a competitive pitching process involving other agencies.

The company, which was founded by Oliver Bruce - last year’s recipient of the Young Business Person of the Year prize at the GloucestershireLive Business Awards - said it was looking to turn the annual event into a “recognised brand".

Air Tattoo chief executive Paul Atherton said: “We’re delighted to bring PinPoint on board. As a creative, content-led marketing agency, we’re looking to PinPoint to use its expertise to exploit the magic created at the Air Tattoo in order to attract new audiences and re-engage with our existing supporter base.

“This summer’s Air Tattoo will be the first in three years and there’s an incredible buzz already building around the event. For us, it's the perfect time to appoint the perfect creative and strategic agency to launch RIAT’s brand into the stratosphere.”

Amy Green, business development director at PinPoint Media, added: “It was amazing to go up against such strong agencies to win the pitch.

“PinPoint has been through incredible growth this past year and we really get to display that with the work we are doing with the Royal International Air Tattoo.”

The expanding agency has over the previous 12 months grown its workforce by 25% to 36, with plans to take its headcount to around 50 this year.

Ms Green, who has previously worked with brands including Burberry, Virgin Atlantic, and Amazon, is one of a number of recent appointments to PinPoint Media’s senior team.

Doug Hurcombe has joined the company as creative director, Ian Smalley as its new head of content strategy and Paula Bonds has been recruited as marketing manager.

PinPoint Media opened an office in London last year and is set to extend its operations further by opening in Manchester in Q2 of this year.

Mr Bruce, the company’s chief executive, said the company’s turnover is forecast to increase in the current financial year by around 120%.

He said: “It’s really exciting to be able to appoint so many senior-level positions in such a short space of time. If we’re to double revenues annually we need the very best talent to help us do this.”

RIAT has been recognised by Guinness World Records as the largest military air show in terms of participating aircraft, with An average of 350 static and flying aircraft attending each year, with a record total of 535 aircraft at the 2003 show.
