Royal fans think Sophie Wessex scolded Princess Charlotte during Trooping the Colour

The Royal Family were out in force over the weekend to mark the first Trooping the Colour ceremony of King Charles' reign.

Charles' grandchildren Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis took part by riding in a carriage to watch the impressive military ceremony at Horse Guards Parade. And while their parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, were required to stay on the parade ground, Sophie Wessex kept an eye on the young royals on the balcony.

In a clip that went viral, royal fans were convinced they could see the Duchess of Edinburgh scold Princess Charlotte during the Trooping the Colour. Charlotte, 8, and her great-aunt, Sophie, 58, were watching the Horse Guards Parade when the young royal turned and asks her aunt a question.

The Duchess then turns to face Charlotte and mutters something that causes the princess to quickly look away. Viewers saw this interaction and assumed that Sophie was telling off an unimpressed Princess Charlotte as they took to Twitter.

“So is Sophie telling Charlotte ‘it’s now’ or to ‘sit down’,” one confused fan wrote. “Personally, I think it’s ‘sit down’, judging by Charlotte’s reaction. But she doesn’t sit down!”

“Sophie told Charlotte to sit down,” joked another. “Must have needed to go to the bathroom!’

A third tweeted: "I am no lip reader, but when BBC cut to the RF observation, even I understood when the Duchess of Edinburgh told Princess Charlotte to "SIT DOWN!". Lol :))).

“Love how Charlotte is getting told off here and to ‘Sit down,'” a fourth said.

However, a professional lip reader has dismissed the accusation that Sophie delivered stern words to Charlotte and insisted it was a friendly conversation. He told the Daily Star that Charlotte appears to ask Sophie: "Sophie, how long will it be?"

To which the duchess replies: "I think it's now."
