For a while it was believed 'Diana' was a front-runner as a name choice for Baby Sussex.
Then, yesterday, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced the arrival of a bouncing baby boy, which puts paid to that theory.
Or does it?
Never ones to be dissuaded from a heartwarming theme, royal fans have actually pointed how the Sussexes could still pay tribute to Harry's beloved mum with a boy's name.
We're not talking 'Spencer' either, which is a current favourite, although that would be sweet too.
Instead, the new parents could simply re-jig the letters spelling Diana to get...Aidan.

With current bookies' favourite being Alexander (3/1), Spencer shifting this morning to second favourite at a narrow 5/1, and Arthur and James close behind, Aidan seems like a long shot.
However, as another royal watcher pointed out:
"The newest #RoyalBaby is going to be seventh in line. The possibility of him being king is slim to none. There’s nothing stopping him from being named Aidan or Casper or Otis."
Think about it. Prince Charles is going to be king one day - his cousins are called David and Sarah.
Prince William's cousins include Zara Tindall, Peter Phillips as well as Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

OK, so none of the above are massively "out there", but cousins of heirs to the throne definitely have the freedom to deviate from royal norms when it comes to names.
It's not the first time Aidan has been touted as a Royal Baby name.
Back in 2013, prior to the announcement of George's name, social media users were all clamouring for a Prince Aidan of Cambridge.

'Cold shoulder' message Prince Harry is sending by refusing 'traditional' baby photo shoot
Harry has never been shy about paying tribute to the mum he lost so young.
Not only did the engagement ring he presented Meghan with featured two diamonds which belonged to the Princess.
Buckingham Palace's official announcement also included a shout-out to his Spencer relatives.
So who knows?
