Royal Family: Kate Middleton and Queen's 'strong bond' explained

During the finale of last weekend's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the Queen and the Duchess of Cambridge shared a 'telling moment', in the eyes of a body language specialist. As Her Majesty's family gathered around her to stand on the balcony at Buckingham Palace one last time on Sunday, June 5, the Queen and Kate evidenced their closeness to the world.

The Queen delighted fans of The Firm when she appeared on the balcony for a third time after the public assumed she would not be present following a string of absences, caused by her ongoing mobility problems. Much to the delight of the crowd, who cheered supportively below, Her Majesty joined her family to greet those lining the streets below.

And it was during Sunday's balcony festivities that the Queen and the Duchess of Cambridge shared a very poignant moment. Although eyes may mostly have been on the Cambridge children, who displayed some very entertaining behaviour over the weekend, the interactions between the adults of the Royal Family should not be overlooked.

Darren Stanton, a body language expert, spoke to OK! Magazine on behalf of Betfair Casino, and told the publication that there was a 'poignant' moment' where the Queen and Kate Middleton's 'strong bond' was made apparent through the duo sharing eye contact on the balcony. Darren said: "There was a great moment, where Kate and the Queen were seen catching each other’s eye.

"Both Royals showed genuine emotion, with their faces truly engaged, as they beamed huge smiles at one another. While a fleeting moment, it portrays the strong bond and connection the Queen and Kate share, as well as the mutual respect they have for one another."

Despite the Duchess of Cambridge opting to wear a bright and bold colour in the form of a deep pink Stella McCartney gown, Darren noted that, on the basis of her body language, Kate is not desperate to steal the spotlight away from Her Majesty. Darren said: "She is more than happy to stand on the peripheral, letting the Queen and her future heirs take centre stage instead."

Over the course of the weekend, viewers of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations were left in stitches as Prince Louis, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's youngest child, acted like a typical four-year-old on the balcony. Although the couple's official Twitter account gushed about the 'incredible time' had by the Cambridges, 'especially Louis', Kate seemed a bit more short tempered over the weekend when she had to lay down the law with her youngest son.

Viewers were desperate to know what was being said when Kate had to intervene after Louis began picking his nose in front of television cameras and the huge crowd below. Jeremy Freeman, a lipreading expert, told the Daily Star that Kate put Louis' hand down, and said: "You have to."

Louis replied: "I don't want to". The defiant young prince then covered his mother's mouth with his hand.

But the Duchess of Cambridge explained to her son: “I said no hands...” She then told Louis “look” and pointed at the parade. When he blew her a raspberry, she replied: “Stop doing that.” Louis stood on his chair, waved his hands in the air, wriggled around and stuck his finger in his ear during the show.

Alongside images of the Platinum Jubilee festivities, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Tweeted a touching personal message once celebrations were over. The message read: "What a fantastic weekend of celebrations.

"Seeing people across the nation coming together with family, friends and loved ones has been extremely special. Thank you to everyone who turned out to show their gratitude to The Queen and her inspiring 70 years of leadership. From the crowds on the Mall to communities hosting street parties up and down the country, we hope you had a weekend to remember."
