The Royal Family were caught "unawares" by the announcement that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting their second child, it has been reported.
On Sunday, the couple announced that Meghan was pregnant with their second child along side a sweet snap of them together as the Duchess of Sussex caressed her bump.
CNN royal correspondent Victoria Arbiter appeared on Good Morning Britain today to talk about the news.
Victoria told Kate Garraway and Ben Shepherd that the former Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been able to 'control the narrative on their own terms' by releasing the picture announcing their pregnancy.
She told the presenters: "The Royal Family are delighted.
"The Queen will not have been able to - or would not have been able to - seen any of her great grandchildren this year anyway because of the lockdown restrictions so hopefully it won't be too long before the Sussexes are able to bring baby Archie and their new brother or sister to the UK to meet the family."
Kate said: "Do you know if Prince Harry and Meghan told the Queen in advance? Did they tell the Royal Family of the news of Meghan's pregnancy?"
"Yes they did - yes they did, they did let the family know in advance," she replied.
"There is some speculation that the Palace was caught unawares. It was a Sunday and they did not have a statement ready to go but of course they rustled something together.
"And, indeed, all that needed to be said was that the Royal Family was delighted and were wishing Harry and Meghan the very best."
