Royal eye doctor's Jaguar will be a sight to behold at auction

A JAGUAR with royal connections could be yours for £6000 to £8000 when it goes to auction in Scotland.

The grey Series 1 XJ6 2.8 was bought new by Sir Stewart Duke-Elder, who was ophthalmologist to King Edward VIII, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II.

He took delivery of the car on April 10, 1970, from George Newman and Company in London. The car spent much of its life down south, even though its owner was born in Tealing, near Dundee.

After Sir Stewart’s death in 1978, his widow used the car until she offered it to the University of London with just 16,650 miles on the clock.

But the university principal bought it for himself and kept it until 1991, when it had covered 26,465 miles.

Now with 41,796 miles on the clock, the car will be auctioned on August 17 by Morris Leslie at Errol Airfield, Perthshire, and is one for those with a keen eye for an immaculate, unrestored, classic Jaguar.
