Royal expert says Harry and Meghan Markle 'angry and shocked' after Frogmore eviction

A royal expert says Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's reaction to being evicted from Frogmore Cottage shows that the couple are “angry” and “shocked”.

A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan confirmed that they have been asked to vacate their British base on Wednesday.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex now live in California with their two children, Archie and Lilibet, but resided at Frogmore Cottage, in the grounds of Windsor Castle, before they emigrated.

Harry and Meghan had been expected to let the Frogmore Cottage lease expire after they left the UK for America, but they reportedly committed to a new 12-month rolling deal last April.

In the meantime, the home was used by Harry's cousin Princess Eugenie, her husband Jack Brooksbank and their young son August.

As reports began to break that King Charles had decided to evict the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Buckingham Palace refused to comment on what was described as a “private family matter”.

However, the response from Harry and Meghan was very different and highlights their anger, Daily Mail Royal Editor Rebecca English says.

Speaking to Palace Confidential, she said: “The minute America woke up, bang! The Sussexes' spokesman went on the record to confirm that it was true.

“I think what it does show us is how angry they are about it and how shocked they were that it happened.

“They're not being offered any other property - it really is as brutal as 'clear your stuff out and get out'.”

The Daily Mail's Richard Eden pointed out on the show that the pair had potentially forced the King to act by repeatedly criticising the Royal Family in their Netflix series and Harry's memoir Spare.

Meanwhile Sarah Ferguson says she refuses to judge Harry and Meghan for their decision to quit as working royals.

The Duchess of York said that previous judgements of her led her to have “no judgement”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made a number of scathing criticisms of other members of the Royal Family, including an attack on Fergie's ex-husband Prince Andrew, whose involvement with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein Harry labelled “a shameful scandal”.

Harry was the first royal to criticise the Duke of York, who has always denied claims that he sexually assaulted Epstein trafficking victim Virginia Giuffre, who he settled a lawsuit with last year.

The Duchess said in quotes reported by the Daily Mail: “I don't believe that any single person has the right to judge another person. I'm not in a position myself to make any judgments.

“I have been judged all my life, and I have no judgment on the Sussexes.”
