Royal Decree Gives King Salman Authority over General Auditing Bureau, Grants it Financial Independence

A Royal Decree approved on Monday a cabinet decision that brings in the General Auditing Bureau (GAB) under the authority of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

GAB President Dr. Hussam Alangari expressed his deep gratitude to King Salman on the approval of the cabinet decision.

He said that the approval is a product of the "High Committee for Audit Institutions Development" formed by a Royal Decree No.5130 dated 2/2/1439 H, and chaired by the Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman.

GAB will now have a direct line of reporting to the King, and become fully independent at the administrative and financial levels, read a GAB statement.

The amendments are in line with the International Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions (ISSAI), as required by the UN General Assembly on SAI independence.

“SAIs can accomplish their tasks objectively and effectively only if they are independent of the audited entity and are protected against outside influence.”
