Royal chef says Princess Diana's meals looked same as guests' - but had big difference

When it comes to the Royal Family and food, we might picture them dining at never-ending banquets, wearing their finest and drinking tea with their pinky fingers in the air.

And while they do often attend fabulous dinners, you might be surprised to know they also have very normal eating habits.

This is according to a former royal chef, Darren McGrady, who worked at Buckingham Palace for 11 years.

Mr McGrady shared a number of royal food secrets with The Mirror - including the time Princess Diana cancelled lunch for William and Harry and took them to McDonald's instead.

He also confessed that there was sometimes a big difference between Diana's meals and the ones her guests ate, though no one could tell.

Mr McGrady claimed Diana would often have a fat-free version of whatever her guests were eating that evening.

So he would have to completely 'revamp' the menu to cut out fats for the princess, but he "no one would know the difference".

He says Diana loved to eat fish but never ate red meat.

She is also said to have steered clear of anything with mayonnaise or sour cream in it.

As well as this, the chef has also previously revealed a few things about The Queen's food preferences.

Speaking to Marie Claire he said she enjoyed eating Kellogg's cereal for breakfast but wasn't a fan of garlic.

He added: "The Queen loves to eat any food from the estate - so game birds, pheasants, grouse, partridge...but she also loves chocolate, the darker the better."

And according to Mr McGrady, Her Majesty could often be seen eating fruit out of a plastic yellow container.

While at other times she ate from a £500,000 marble dish encrusted with diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds.
