Great news for lovers of the Royal Canberra Show - the 2022 event will be going ahead.

The show will run from February 25 to 27 at Exhibition Park in Canberra after being cancelled earlier this year due to COVID concerns.

Royal National Capital Agricultural Society chief executive Geoff Cannock said everyone was looking forward to celebrating the show again, with the last one held in 2020, albeit affected by the bushfires and smoke of that summer.

All ticket sales will be ahead of the event, with none on-site, to facilitate contract-tracing.

Details of ticket prices will be announced later, but Mr Cannock said patrons could expect prices in line with previous years, with no hikes expected.

"We will be working closely with ACT Health and ACT Venues to ensure we have a COVID plan that gives us all maximum protection," he said.

"Exhibition Park is the most expansive showground in Australia and most of our animal competitions are conducted outdoors. This enables us to achieve the density limits that may be in force next February.

"We have moved our most popular pavilion, the farmyard nursery, to a much larger building."

Mr Cannock said "99 per cent" of attractions would be back in 2022.

The society had already organised 400 portable stables from as far away as Melbourne for more than 1300 horse entries which would be competing a prize pool of $40,000.

He said people who showed animals, from cows to cats, shared a kindred spirit and all were counting down the days to take centre stage again.

There would also be the sideshow alley rides and attractions and all the traditional competitions.

"We look forward to a bumper show," Mr Cannock said.

"Our customers have waited a long time to get out of their homes and off their farms to compete in events from a champion hack to the best fruitcake in the district."
