Royal baby latest: Bookies suspend bets amid rumours Meghan Markle has already given birth

With the Duchess of Sussex due to give birth to the royal baby any day, excitement is brewing across the nation.

Many royal fans have been keeping a close eye on any possible updates on social media, following the recent launch of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's official Instagram account, keen to find out anything and everything about the birth of the royal couple's first child.

There are many details we already know, including approximately when the duchess will give birth and the fact that the royal baby will unlikely be granted a royal title.

However, much information about the royal birth is being kept under wraps.

Baby Sussex may become the first royal to own more passports than either of its parents.

The royal baby will be able to obtain two passports, as he or she will have a claim for dual nationality.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry does not qualify for American citizenship, and Meghan will need to have lived in the UK for five years before applying to become British, despite being married into the royal family.

In November, the Duchess of Cambridge expressed her excitement over the upcoming arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's baby.

"It's such a special time to have little kiddies," she told royal fans in Leicester.

"And a cousin for George and Charlotte, as well, and Louis - it will be really special."

When Baby Sussex is born, Prince Harry and Meghan won't have full legal custody of their child.

This is due to a law enacted more than three centuries ago, called "The Grand Opinion for the Prerogative Concerning the Royal Family".

This law dictates that the Queen will have full legal custody of any future children of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“I would doubt that the Queen would interfere. [It’s] more of a formality,” royal expert Marlene Koenig told The Independent.

“I think the Queen has let her children raise their kids.”

With Baby Sussex due any day, here's everything you need to know about the royal baby in numbers:

Prince Harry and Meghan met in London in July 2016, after being set up by a mutual friend.

Kensington Palace confirmed their relationship in a statement released in 2016, before the couple announced their engagement in November 2017.

While many are placing bets on what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will name the royal baby, less attention is being placed on what the couple have been calling Meghan's baby bump.

According to a recent study of 1,500 mothers and fathers conducted by online parenting community ChannelMum.com, during pregnancy nine out of 10 parents give the mother's baby bump a nickname.

Popular baby bump names include "button", "sprout" and "pebble".

Prince Harry and Meghan may have their work cut out for them when the royal baby arrives.

According to a recent study, six out of 10 parents feel as though they're "failing" during their child's first year.

The survey claimed that adapting to sleepless nights, battling with fatigue and struggling with nighttime feeds has led many new parents to believing they're "not good enough".

The worldwide poll of 13,064 adults was commissioned by baby product company WaterWipes.

Several Twitter users keeping their eyes peeled for any royal baby news are doing so by using the hashtag "#SussexStandby".

One royal correspondent took a photo outside Windsor Castle, showing the crowds being monitored by police officers.
Despite no further news on when the Duchess of Sussex will give birth, crowds of people are patiently waiting in Windsor.
Tennis star Serena Williams, a close friend of the Duchess of Sussex, has no doubt that her pal will make a wonderful parent.

"She'll be the best mum, for sure," Williams told E! News.

The pair first met in 2010, during a party celebrating the Super Bowl, before crossing paths again while taking part in a flag football match in 2014.

Williams attended Prince Harry and Meghan's royal wedding last year with her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

Earlier this week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's official Instagram account followed 16 other accounts of individuals and organisations who promote mental health wellbeing and awareness.

The royal couple followed these specific accounts in order to honour Mental Health Awareness Month in the US for the month of May, and Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK, which is taking place from Monday 13 May until Sunday 19 May.

One of the accounts followed by @sussexroyal was the account for Jameela Jamil's "I Weigh" movement, which combats body shaming.

Jamil described being followed by the royals as an "honour".
Bookmaker Coral has suspended bets on when the Duchess of Sussex is due to give birth amid speculation that the royal baby has already been born.

"The announcement of the birth of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's first child is expected any day now and if some speculation is correct, it may have already arrived. Therefore, we have pulled the plug on our birth date betting," said Coral's John Hill.

"We continue to see thousands of bets daily on the name of the child though, with Grace proving the most popular with punters and is the favourite ahead of Diana and Arthur," Hill added.

Baby Sussex will be the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh's eighth great-grandchild, and Prince Charles' fourth grandchild.

The Duchess of Sussex was joined by the monarch during her first official engagement without Prince Harry in June last year, when the pair travelled to Chester together to open the Mersey Gateway Bridge and the new Storyhouse theatre.

According to bookies, Allegra is a possible contender as one of the names Prince Harry and Meghan may choose for the royal baby, if it's a girl.

Allegra, a name of Italian origin, means "joyful" or "lively", while in music the term allegro means "quick, lively tempo".

If Baby Sussex is named Allegra, then they will share their name with Allegra Versace, the daughter of fashion designer Donatella Versace; Allegra Byron, the daughter of Romantic poet Lord Byron; and Allegra Kent, a former New York City Ballet prima ballerina.

On Friday, an onlooker in Windsor believed they may have spotted a clue that Baby Sussex had been born when they saw a car driving towards Frogmore Cottage with a police escort, and what appeared to be pink blankets in the back window.

However, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson has stated the car was not linked to the arrival of the royal baby.

There's a possibility that Baby Sussex may share its birthday with two other royals, if he or she is born today.

Pauline Ducruet, daughter of Princess Stéphanie of Monaco, celebrates her 25th birthday today.

Meanwhile, Prince Henrik of Denmark, son of Prince Joachim of Denmark, turns 10 today.

Baby Sussex could have playdates with some very famous friends when it grows up.

As well as the Duchess of Sussex, actors Blake Lively and Keira Knightley both recently revealed that they're also pregnant.

Lively is expecting her third child with her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, while Knightley is expecting her second with her husband, musician James Righton.

If the royal baby is born today, then it will share its birthday with a very special day in the Star Wars fandom.

Every year, fans of the globally renowned franchise celebrate Star Wars Day on 4 May, using the phrase: "May the Fourth be with you", in reference to the famous catchphrase: "May the Force be with you".

As such, several Star Wars fans believe the Baby Sussex should take its name after another treasured royal: Princess Leia.

"Only one possible name for the #RoyalBaby if it's born today," one person tweeted, alongside a picture of Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia. "Happy Star Wars Day everyone."
Longtime royal fan John Loughery has prepared for the prospect of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex having a baby boy or a baby girl.

Loughery has created posters celebrating either outcome, stereotypically colouring the baby boy poster blue and the baby girl poster pink.

Both posters feature two pictures of the royal couple, one of which was taken on the day of their wedding in May last year and the second on Commonwealth Day in March.

It was recently reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not going to be releasing any official royal baby merchandise following the birth of their first child.

"We have no new ranges to announce," a spokesperson for the Royal Collection Trust told The Independent.

Nonetheless, with excitement building over the upcoming birth, those wishing to celebrate Baby Sussex can do so by buying an unofficial royal baby-inspired babygrow, on display here in a shop window in Windsor.
