Royal baby name odds: Bookmakers slash odds on this name from 50/1 to 8/1

Forget the traditional British names - there's a new name in the running for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Prince Harry's adorable statement after Meghan Markle gives birth to baby boy

Bookmakers have slashed odds on the royal baby being named Spencer following a flurry of bets over the last 24 hours.

According to Oddschecker , bookmakers have cut odds on the name from 50/1 into just 8/1, making it now the third favourite for what Harry and Meghan will opt for.

That’s due to a stream of bets on the moniker, with 42% of all bets over the last 12 hours being placed on the out-there choice.

There is royal lineage in the name, however, with Spencer relating to the late Princess Diana’s side of the family.

Elsewhere, bookmakers have installed Alexander as the clear favourite for the new royal baby’s name.

That leads the market at 6/1, followed by James and Arthur which both follow next at 7/1, as the newlyweds look set to secure a moniker as soon as possible.

Oddschecker spokesperson, George Elek, said: "It comes as something as a surprise to see the traditional names such as Alexander and James being amongst the favourites given the speculation that they will chose something 'unusual'.

"Spencer therefore seems more in line, whilst paying tribute to Prince Harry's late mother."
