Royal baby name betting odds as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcome newborn boy

Meghan Markle has given birth to her and Prince Harry's first child - a baby boy.

Meghan gave birth on Monday May 6 to a baby son weighing 7lbs 3oz and mother and child are doing well , the palace has announced.

She went into labour in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday - with Prince Harry by her side throughout her labour.  

The Duchess of Sussex gave birth at 5.26am. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news.  

The Duchess's mother Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage. 

The baby's name has not yet been revealed - with the bookies going into overdrive with speculation on what the couple will name their baby son.

Paddy Power have Alexander and James as favourites - both priced at 7/2.

Arthur is another strong contender - with the odds at 6/1.

Oliver and Edward are other options - at 12/1, while Jacob is the outsider at 14/1

While Ladbrokes have Arthur as their favourite at 5/1 with Alexander and Albert both at 8/1.

Thomas is at 12/1 - with outlandish options Matthew and Sebastian priced at 40/1.

Ladbrokes are offering 150/1 on Jacob and 250/1 on baby Wayne.

Prince Harry appeared at Windsor to share the good news saying that mother and baby are doing well and that it had been the "most amazing experience."

Harry said what women do is beyond comprehension and that the couple were "beyond thrilled and so grateful" for the support from the public.

Harry said the baby was overdue and that the couple were still thinking about names.

The Prince said he was hoping to appear with his new family in two days time to share the new arrival with the world.

The pair were expected to give the world the first glimpse of their new baby on Instagram, in another break from tradition.

The child will be seventh in line of succession and is not expected to have a HRH title.
