Royal baby christening: Serena Williams won't attend Archie's baptism today, tennis champion confirms

Serena Williams has confirmed she will not attend the royal christening of Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor

Asked at Wimbledon whether the Duchess of Sussex had asked her to be a godparent and if she would be present at the ceremony, she replied: "No, I'm working on Saturday."

Referring to her close friend Meghan, the 37-year-old added: "She understands work."

Williams is due to play German Julia Goerges.

Meghan watched her earlier this week as she triumphed in the second-round against Kaja Juvan.

The Duchess wore a necklace that had a small "A" hanging in the centre.

Speaking after the match, Williams said: "I knew she was there and it's always exciting when she comes out to support the tennis."

She added: "I was happy".

Archie's christening will be held in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle, although Buckingham Palace has said the ceremony will be a private affair.

It has not revealed exactly what time the special occasion will take place.

The palace also confirmed that the identities of Archie's godparents will also remain private.
