This unique, behind-closed-doors Royal Ascot meeting has reached its third day and it could be a historic one, as Stradivarius bids for a third straight win in the Gold Cup.
John Gosden's star-stayer surrendered his ten-race unbeaten run in a thrilling battle with Kew Gardens at Ascot on Champions Day last year, but with that opponent not in the field today he is a warm favourite to give jockey Frankie Dettori an eighth win in the race.
Dettori also has the favourite in the day's other Group contest as King Leonidas heads the market for the Jersey Stakes, where opposition includes Molatham with the in-form Jim Crowley on board and looking to continue a superb week.
Silvestre De Sousa and King Power have had a difficult start to the Festival but Fox Tal has been well-backed for the Wolfreton Stakes, having at one stage looked likely to take up a classier engagement. His rivals include last year's Derby fifth Sir Dragonet, with Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore looking to strike again after landing winners on Tuesday and Wednesday, while the pair also have the fancied Battleground in the Chesham Stakes.
The meeting had been extremely tricky one for punters to get a handle on for much of the opening two days, with Japan and Mogul among the short-priced favourites to fail to deliver, but wins for Tactical and Fujaira Prince - both the subject of significant gambles - late on Wednesday will have brought some joy.
