Royal Antwerp striker dons rival team's kit in bid to force move

Disgruntled Royal Antwerp striker Didier Lamkel Zé has issued a grovelling apology after donning a rival team's strip in a bid to force a move away.

The 24-year-old was hell-bent on joining Panathinaikos and he showed up to training in Anderlecht colours and threatened to wear the strip of fierce rivals Beerschot.

But Lamkel Zé has been forced into an embarrassing climb down as he has begged for forgiveness from irate Antwerp supporters.

The storm is the last thing new boss Franky Vercauteren needs as he prepares for his side's monumental showdown with Rangers in the last 32 of the Europa League next month.

And Lamkel Zé insists he is now desperate to make things right after his power play failed to have the desired effect ahead of the clash with Steven Gerrard's men.

He said: "I want to apologize to the club and to the Antwerp supporters, because they are magnificent and wonderful supporters, they have always supported me.

If I reacted like this it is because my head was somewhere else (the transfer), it was not easy for me.

"I really, really want to apologize for this gesture. I do not forget neither my teammates in the locker room or the technical staff who have supported me since my arrival here. I am available for the club if the new coach needs me.

"I hope to find the supporters very soon on the pitch. "
