Royal Antwerp boss gives Rangers draw verdict as Ivan Leko issues favourites warning

Royal Antwerp boss Ivan Leko is ‘satisfied’ to have drawn Rangers in the Europa League round of 32.

But the Croatian acknowledged that the Belgians will be taking on one of the ‘largest clubs in Europe’ for a place in the last 16.

Steven Gerrard will take his team to Belgium in February, having already beaten Standard Liege there in the group stage.

It’s then back to Ibrox to duke it out for a spot in the last 16 draw, set to take place the following day.

The consensus is that Rangers have to be pleased with the draw given who they could have been paired with, but it seems Leko is equally happy and is relishing the underdogs tag his team have been assigned.

“Rangers are among the teams I would like in the draw,” he admitted. “That's not to say they aren't a strong team though."

"The fact that we have got to fight for a place in the Last 16 against Glasgow Rangers gives me a very satisfied feeling.

"Rangers are one of the traditionally largest clubs in Europe.

"But when we play to our best, we certainly have a chance and hopefully, that will be the case.

"We are at home first before we go to Glasgow and that's not a problem.

"But let's be honest here, every seeded club left in the competition wanted to play us.

"Whoever got us were always going to be the favourites and that's the case with Rangers here.

"But the favourites don't always win in football."
