Royal and Aintree Hospitals update visiting restrictions and ask groups not to attend

New restrictions are now in place for visitors to Aintree Hospital and the Liverpool Royal.

The trust responsible for the hospitals has issued a series of guidelines for families and loved ones of patients currently being treated at hospitals in the city.

Due to the outbreak of coronavirus, visitors are also being asked to follow advice from staff and to make sure they use the hand washing facilities available.

A spokesperson for the trust explained that the new measures and restrictions are now in place to protect the safety of patients and staff.

As a result, visiting hours have been decreased to just one hour a day and patients may only have one visitor at a time, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Dianne Brown, Chief Nurse at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The safety of our patients and staff is our top priority.

"In line with national guidance, we are restricting visiting hours to between 6pm and 7pm, effective from today.

“In order to protect your loved ones, other patients and our staff, I would remind all visitors to use the hand washing facilities available before entering and after leaving our wards.

“Visitors must be immediate family members or carers and they must not visit our hospitals if they are unwell, especially if they have a high temperature or a new and persistent cough."

Ms. Brown also explained the circumstances in which more than one visitor may be able to attend the hospital.

She added: "Our wards will permit one visitor per patient, unless the patient is receiving end-of-life care or the visitor needs to be accompanied.

“Those who are accompanying visitors should not wait in patient, ward or communal inpatient or outpatient areas.

“For their own safety, we ask that individuals who are vulnerable as a result of their medication, who have a chronic illness and who are over 70 do not visit patients in hospital.

"No children under 12 should be visiting without the ward sister or charge nurse’s prior permission.

“We understand this is a change from our usual visiting hours and we thank people for their co-operation.”
