Royal Academy to host life drawing class starring a Welsh mountain pony

If you've ever fancied horsing around at a life drawing class, now's your chance.

The Royal Academy is set to host a free, online life drawing class this Thursday February 28, featuring a Welsh mountain pony alongside the other, human models.

Set to be broadcast from the RA’s historic Life Room — where the likes of Turner and Constable were taught to draw — the class is open to anyone around the world who has a pencil, paper and an internet connection.

The session will focus on how to draw human and animal anatomy, marking the RA's upcoming exhibition, the Renaissance Nude, a show which explores how the naked form has inspired some of the world's most iconic artistic masterpieces.

Artistic director Tim Marlow and artist and broadcaster Dr Sarah Simblet are set to host the class, which will feature contributions from creatives and experts on how artists like Leonardo Da Vinci studied different bodies.

Organisers have made assurances that the pony, who's called Romeo, will have a handlers with him during the live streaming session to ensure he's kept happy.

The event follows the success of its first life drawing “live” class, in January 2018, which attracted more than 50,000 online participants from across the globe.
