Roy Keane will be another Irish Celtic flop hailed by fans who couldn't point Cork out on a map - Hotline

It's the managerial search that has gone on for five weeks but it finally feels it's going somewhere now.

Candidates are jockeying for position like it's the Grand National start line as Dermot Desmond steps up his search for Neil Lennon's permanent successor.

But who will the next Celtic boss be? Roy Keane, Eddie Howe and Enzo Maresca could all be in the mix but fans have lobbed even more candidates into a mix that might have the bookies updating their odds again.

Manchester United legend Keane has played for the club before but one caller believes Celtic's fascination with Emerald Isle options must end now.

James Molloy, Kilsyth, said: "Roy Keane continues to be linked to the managers position at Celtic.

"I suppose he ticks one of the main boxes for the hard of thinking amongst the Celtic support - he's Irish.

"Will they ever learn? Most of the them couldn't point to Cork on a map.

"In his last club management job Keane was a disaster. As for the Irish criteria - Keane's time at Parkhead was hardly worthy of praise and Shane Duffy has been a laughing stock."

John Bruce said: "Steve Clarke is one of the favourites for the Celtic manager's job. In an earlier Scotland squad, he chose five Celtic players, five ex-Celtic players and two self-confessed Celtic fans. So you don't have to be a savant to figure out where his affinities lie.

Desmond is searching for a new manager (SNS Group)

"Even with his blinkered player selections, you have to ask what makes Clarke believe that choosing current Celtic players for this group of games - who have performed poorly domestically and awfully on a European level this season - will merely flick a switch and shine on the international stage?"

Paddy Gowan said: "Why don't Celtic go for Duncan Ferguson as manager? He's learned from one of the best managers in the world and he's miles better than John Kennedy."

But one Hoops supporter remains bullish about the prospect of extracting some revenge on Rangers and evening up the season trophy haul.

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: "It should not be forgotten that Celtic have the opportunity to finish this season with the same amount of trophies as Rangers.

The Covid 5 were suspended on Tuesday (SNS Group)

"We've won the double nine in a row and missed out on the 10 but the main target is to topple their claimed 115 plus one shared total, Which we will be only four short of eclipsing if we win the Scottish Cup."

Rangers fans are smarting over the punishment dished out five of their players for breaching strict lockdown rules.

Alfie Mullen, London, said: " Rangers have been treated more harshly than any other club, when players have breached Covid rules.

"It seems like one rule for Rangers and one rule for every other club. So far, Rangers players have been given immediate bans, after the authorities ruled the players had erred.

"Breaching players from the other clubs, after the authorities ruled they had erred, got suspended bans. Now there is sporting integrity... Not!."

Robert Robertson, Barnsley, said: "Why are Rangers treated differently to every other club? The suspended sentences to players at other clubs are well documented but no such leniency to Jones & Edmundson and the Ibrox 5.

Morelos scored against Celtic and won player of the month (Getty Images)

"The worrying thing is the SFA don’t hide their bias any more. As for that idiot Moffat from Stirling, “Morelos can’t score against Celtic” when he does its “he can’t score from open play” what’s next ? He can’t score when there’s an “I” in the day of the week."

Morelos' goal exploits were also addressed by another fan who believes Europe's best won't be up or down by ending his Celtic goal jinkx.

Joe Smith, Coleraine, said: "The big clubs are watching Morelos playing in European basing their assessment on those matches not against also rans like Celtic."

A wearied Hearts fan wants Ann Budge detractors to stand down.

Ian Robertson, Alva, said: "At 82 years of age and been a life long Jambo It annoys me that the fans forget what Anne Budge has done and continues to do.

"Yes, they have two bad results but it is sport, let them get on with building the club back up to what they should be stop the bickering and negative comments

"Be supporters and get behind the team."

Another Hearts fan insists he's been getting some laughter therapy by reading Hibs hero Tam McManus' Record Sport column.

James Donald said: "Been tough being a Jambo lately so I would like to tam mcmanus for cheering me up. There is nothing better than a delusional hIbby as a pick me up. What is it Tam. 11-2 for Hearts in the three games at Hampden?

"Hearts may struggle over the line but they won't be in the championship for three seasons unlike Hibs."
