Roy Keane, Warren Joyce, Danny Cowley, Paul Scholes: bookmakers' favourites for next Salford City boss

Salford City are on the hunt for a new permanent manager after the sacking of Graham Alexander.

The Ammies parted company with Alexander yesterday after more than two years in charge at the Peninsula Stadium.

Manchester United great and Salford co-owner Paul Scholes has been placed in temporary charge of the League Two side and will be aided by Warren Joyce.

Alexander's last game in charge of Salford came on Saturday when the Ammies drew 2-2 at home against Tranmere Rovers, but let a two-goal lead slip late on.

The club sits fifth in League Two after five games and are unbeaten in the division so far this campaign.

A club statement read: "Salford City Football Club announces that manager Graham Alexander has left the club with immediate effect. The club met with Graham this morning and after discussion have agreed to part company.

"The club would like to thank Graham for his contribution and all his hard work. In his first season he guided the team to Wembley, resulting in promotion to League Two and in his second season he reached the Leasing.com Trophy final. The club would like to wish him all the best and success in the future.

"First team coach, Chris Lucketti, will also leave the club.

"Paul Scholes will act as the interim head coach while the club looks to secure a new manager. Warren Joyce, currently in isolation, will join Paul once he is able to."

Since Alexander's sacking, the bookmakers have been speculating as to who will be the next permanent manager in the dugout at the Peninsula Stadium.

And according to the latest odds from BetVictor, former United captain Roy Keane is among the favourites.

Joyce is currently marginally ahead in the race to become the next permanent Ammies boss, just ahead of Keane.

The duo are then followed by former Huddersfield Town boss Danny Cowley, interim boss Scholes, and ex- Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook.

Former Bolton Wanderers manager Keith Hill is among the outsides for the job at 20/1, with ex-Ammies joint manager Anthony Johnson, Salford co-owner Gary Neville and ex-Bristol City boss Lee Johnson even further down among several names at 25/1.
