Roy Keane thinks lack of regular football led to Darren Randolph's Ireland error

Roy Keane thinks that a lack of first team football led to a Darren Randolph error that cost Ireland in a defeat to Finland on Wednesday.

The Bray keeper attempted a pass midway through the second-half in the Helsinki clash, but it was intercepted and the hosts were able to capitalise and net the winner in the Nations League clash.

But despite Randolph being the established first choice for the Boys in Green, the veteran is second-fiddle at West Ham United - playing behind Lukasz Fabianski.

And the Boys in Green legend Roy Keane claims that despite being an experienced goalkeeper, Randolph's lack of match practice could have led to the error.

"They gave a shocking goal away tonight," he told ITV after Wednesday's game.

"That's well and good, whatever the manager's philosophy is, if he wants to play out from the back.

"This comes down to decision making from players.

"Ireland are away from home, they're under pressure. Just relax. You've got an experienced keeper in Randolph. It's a bad decision and even worse execution. Crazy.

"Credit to Pukki, he's alive to it. Ireland get punished for it. That's what happens in top level sport.

"Darren's an experienced goalkeeper, but he doesn't play week in, week out. He's a number two and sometimes that sharpness isn't there."
