Roy Keane tells Arsenal's board what Mikel Arteta wants in the final week of the transfer window

Roy Keane believes Arsenal first team manager Mikel Arteta will be desperate for "improvements" in the transfer window, after his side were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool.

The Gunners came into the match having won their first two games of the season, but champions Liverpool ran out deserved 3-1 winners after dominating large periods of the game.

Goals from Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson and Diogo Jota sealed the victory for Jurgen Klopp's side and maintained the Reds' perfect start to their title defence.

Speaking after the match, Keane pinpointed Arsenal's defence as a problem position, and suggested that Gunners boss Arteta would be keen to add one or two more players before the window shuts next Monday.

“Of course (Arsenal are on the right path under Arteta)," Keane said on Sky Sports Monday Night Football.

"There’s no getting away from that, but he will want improvements, as good of a coach as he is, he will want some players in.

"I think the big problem for Arsenal at the moment, from what we hear, finances aren’t great at the club.

"They still need to get rid of one or two to get some decent players. So, his hands are tied, I’d think over the next 12 or 18 months which is a big problem because he does need one or two more players in to help the players they’ve got.

"We saw them again defensively tonight, I still think Luiz, Tierney, Holding - there’s big question marks with them at the back.”

After the final whistle, Arsenal boss Arteta admitted that Liverpool's quality ensured the match was a step too far for his side.

“We are on a different journey to them,” he said. “They have been together for five years.

“They weren’t able to do what they have done tonight two or three years ago, that’s for sure.

“They have done a lot of good work. They have a lot of belief in the way they play, they have had great recruitment and have improved the players that they have.

“This is what we have to try to do. They have set the bar, probably the best standard that we have seen in many years. We still have a long way to go.”
