Roy Keane has taken a fresh swipe at Liverpool's players ahead of this afternoon’s game against Manchester United.
The Reds head to Old Trafford on the back of a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United at Anfield last weekend.
That result left Liverpool’s Champions League hopes hanging by a thread heading into the final weeks of their Premier League campaign.
Keane has been critical of Jurgen Klopp’s side so far this season, branding them "bad champions" following defeat to Manchester City back in March.
And speaking ahead of this afternoon’s game, the former United captain took aim at Liverpool’s experienced stars once again.
“We go back to recruitment in the summer, who can bring in top quality players. I still think United are short two or three players,” he told Sky Sports.
“Liverpool, no doubt, will have to regroup, I think the big problem for Liverpool is they haven’t been a good team this year.
“I don’t think they’ve had any good leadership skills from some of the senior players, obviously the attacking players have not done the business.
“They still have enough quality to bounce back next year, but the recruitment will be vital for both clubs this summer in who will challenge Man City.”
Before Graeme Souness added: “100 percent correct in saying they’ve not been good champions, they’ve not responded.
“Everyone gets injuries to key players at the wrong time, so for Liverpool spending nearly all the season without Van Dijk, the other guys you thought were good players have not responded very well.
“I’m afraid they need to have a close and hard look at themselves. If you were to ask that group one by one whether they’ve had a good year, I think only maybe Mo Salah could put his hands up, he’s got the goals again. The rest of them have to have a close look at themselves.”
