Roy Keane surprises students as he makes Christmas visit to his old school

Irish football legend Roy Keane gave young students a brilliant Christmas surprise as he paid a visit to his old school ahead of the festive season.

The former Ireland captain delighted pupils as he paid a visit to the school he once attended years ago in his native Cork.

Keane was all smiles as he was pictured with groups of kids and staff at Mayfield Community School.

The school's official Facebook page posted the photos showing Roy taking a tour of his old stomping ground with the caption: "Today we had a very special visitor, a past pupil, come back to us for one day only"

"Roy Keane popped by to wish all our staff and students a Happy Christmas"

Social media users expressed their delight that Keano paid a visit to see the kids.

One wrote: "Well done Roy, never forgot where you came from."

Another said: "Great days in that school, great to see a legend return", while a third person wrote  "Lovely man, always good to his own Cork people".

The 48-year-old resigned as Ireland assistant manager in November last year, and more recently stood down from his jobs as assistant manager of Nottingham Forest just five months after taking up the role.

But the sporting hero hasn't stayed out of the limelight however as he has since ventured into a new punditry role with Sky Sports this year.

And one of his other most notable TV appearances of 2019 came when Keane made a cameo in the hit comedy series The Young Offenders.

The hilarious scene shows Keane approaching delinquents Conor and Jock's chip van wearing a Cork City scarf and holding a pint of beer.

Keane asks: "Lads, if you are not going anywhere, any chance of a fish supper?"

The football legend gets a short response though with all three telling Keane "to f**k off".
