Roy Keane suggests Southampton match highlighted weak link at Manchester United

Roy Keane singled out Fred as Manchester United's weak link during Sunday's comeback victory over Southampton.

United went two goals behind against the Saints at St Mary's after Jan Bednarek opened the scoring with a header and James Ward-Prowse fired home a free-kick.

Keane has been critical of United goalkeeper David de Gea in the past, but didn't point the finger at the Spaniard for conceding twice in the opening 45 minutes.

Instead, the Irishman laid into United's Brazilian midfielder Fred, who gave away a cheap free-kick on the edge of the Red Devils area, which was converted by Ward-Prowse.

"Well I'd be more critical of Fred, I think Fred giving away the free kick," Keane said during the half time break on Sky Sports.

"De Gea, again I still don't expect my goalkeeper to be beaten from there, I really don't.

"Fantastic set-piece, the pace he gets on it and the accuracy, he's certainly one of the best in Europe at the moment with that type of delivery.

"I'd be disappointed with my goalkeeper but I'd be more annoyed with Fred for being really lazy, sloppy.

"You know giving away free kicks in that area is like giving away a penalty."

United turned the game around in the second half with Bruno Fernandes reducing the deficit from close range on the hour mark.

Edinson Cavani drew the scores level with a header a quarter of an hour before the end, and then completed the turnaround with another headed effort in stoppage time.
