Roy Keane steals the show on Comic Relief and reveals he gave up smoking aged 11

Roy Keane gave fans a chuckle tonight in his RTE Does Comic Relief appearance - with the Manchester United legend revealing he gave up smoking at the age of 11.

Keano's honest revelation got a laugh from TV viewers while he took part in a quiz on all things Cork and reminisced about growing up in the Rebel County.

Former Munster rugby star Donncha O'Callaghan saw off Keane and The Young Offenders star Hilary Rose to win the quiz but it was the former midfield ace who had social media buzzing.

"I remember I was going to give up cigarettes at the time of the 1982 World Cup," Keane recalled.

"I said to my friends at the time i was giving up cigarettes because I wanted to focus on being a footballer, so I gave up the smoking when I was about 11. That's when I gave up."

Keane has hit the headlines recently for his frank TV punditry and his assessment of his former club's star players.
