Roy Keane slams Manchester United players after Liverpool performance

Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has labelled the Liverpool defeat as "unacceptable" as he criticised the players apologies following the performance, calling for the United players to get on with the game and "turn up".

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come under intense scrutiny over the last six days following the harrowing defeat to their fierce rivals with a number of managers being linked with the Old Trafford hot seat.

The defeat left a sour taste as Mohamed Salah's hat-trick inflicted one of Manchester United's worst home defeats in the club's history, but Saturday evening posed an opportunity for the Norwegian's side to answer some of the critics and end the run of league matches without a win.

Jurgen Klopp's side running riot piled the misery domestically for United as they were handed consecutive league defeats adding to the run of three games without a win.

Keane, who wasn't apart of the Sky Sports coverage last Sunday, labelled the showing as "embarrassing" calling on the players to focus on their game rather than apologising on social media.

"It was an embarrassing performance. I heard Bryan Robson speak during the week, who was obviously a great player for Manchester United and a man full of courage, and he felt that the players gave up which I think is the biggest insult you can give to a professional footballer," the Irishman said.

"Unacceptable. There was a lot of talk coming out this week, a lot of rubbish from players, apologies left right and centre. It’s no good. It’s all rubbish all that kind of nonsense coming out from players and team [Marcus] Rashford and [Harry] Maguire.

"[Bruno] Fernandes a few weeks ago when he missed a penalty against Aston Villa. Just get on with the game, turn up and give everything you’ve got for the club and they didn’t do that last week.

"Performances haven't been good this season, they've been giving off a lot of chances and remember the previous week they lost four at Leicester who aren't top of their game. I wouldn't say I was exactly shocked. But this idea of players giving up is the worst insult you can have for a professional football player."
