Roy Keane slams Eric Dier after Tottenham vs Newcastle penalty controversy

Roy Keane has slammed Eric Dier for his role in Tottenham's controversial draw with Newcastle United.

Spurs were forced to settle for a draw against the Magpies following a highly controversial decision in injury time to award Newcastle a penalty for a handball by Dier.

The ball did hit Dier's hand, but with the England international completely unaware of the ball's flight path, most have been outraged by the decision.

However, Manchester United legend Keane is standing with referee Peter Bankes, instead blaming Dier for his defending.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho post-match after Newcastle

“I can see why he gave the Dier one, I really can," he said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football. "I think, okay, he’s jumped up, but he’s still flung his arm in the air.

"It’s bad defending anyway, I don’t understand the modern defender not reading the flight of the ball.

"He has swung his hand up, I don’t know why he’s done that, so I can see why that’s been given as a penalty.”

Spurs led from the 25th minute against Newcastle after Lucas Moura put them in front.

Jose Mourinho's men racked up 23 shots but failed to put the tie to bed and had to settle for a share of the spoils after Newcastle were awarded the spot-kick seven minutes into added time, Callum Wilson scoring from the spot.
