Roy Keane singles out West Ham star for poor England display against Czech Republic

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has slammed West Ham United star Declan Rice for his first-half display during England's 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic.

The Three Lions suffered their first qualifying defeat in ten years on Friday night as they were humbled in Prague.

Prior to the clash, Gareth Southgate's side boasted a 100% record in Group A and having beaten their hosts 5-0 in March many were expecting another comfortable night.

However, despite taking the lead through Harry Kane's fifth-minute penalty, the Three Lions were pegged back four minutes later before Zdenek Ondrasek secured a famous victory in the 85h minute.

It was a result that brought England back to earth with a huge fud, having dispatched all of their qualifying opponents with ease up until their visit to Prague.

Indeed, Southgate was also heavily criticised for his selection of Rice and Jordan Henderson as a double pivot, against inferior opposition.

The similarities of the pair stifled any creativity from the centre of the park and the pair's performances drew fierce criticism from Keane at the interval, with the score at 1-1, alongside Tottenham's Danny Rose.

“Yeah I think it’s been poor, I don’t think England have got going,” Keane said on ITV.

“They had a lucky break, penalty after five minutes, you’re thinking they’re going to maybe kick on from there, but they haven’t got going at all.

“Really sloppy, Henderson and Rice, they might as well sit with us in the studio, no affect on the game.

“Danny Rose is strolling out there. Gareth needs to give them a bit of a rollicking and I’m sure he will do.”

Sadly for England, things didn't pick up in the second 45 and Rice's performance will leave him sweating over a place in Monday's XI against Bulgaria.

Many have called for Spurs' Harry Winks to be included alongside Rice or Henderson and given the status of the Liverpool captain, it could be West Ham's holding midfielder that misses out.
