Roy Keane sets Manchester United challenge for Paul Pogba after performance vs Tottenham

Manchester United great Roy Keane has challenged Paul Pogba to consistently excel for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side after being impressed by his return from injury.

The France World Cup winner had been sidelined since December but came off the bench for United in their return to Premier League action against Tottenham.

United trailed after Steven Bergwijn's first-half effort but Pogba's introduction changed the game, with the decisive moment coming as he surged past Eric Dier and won a penalty.

Bruno Fernandes tucked home from the spot and the pair, who fans have been eagerly waiting to see partner each other, showed encouraging signs ahead of the finale to the Premier League campaign and the battle for Champions League football.

Keane praised the midfielder for his performance but laid down the mantle for him to continue to impress in the frantic end to the season.

“When he came on tonight, it was that type of game, and obviously there’s talk with the Mourinho stuff. But there’s no doubting Paul Pogba’s talent, he is a talented boy," he told Sky Sports.

"The reason we criticise him is because we believe he’s a talented boy. What we need from Paul is, we need to see this week in and week out, not just every few weeks. The key for any player - if you want to be regarded as a top player - is to be more consistent and he’s not been.

"Okay, he’s had his injury problems this year, but we expect more from Paul because we think he’s a really, really good player. He needs to be more consistent.

“It’s a good time for him to come on - 60-70 minutes - Ole as a manager as well, you want options, you look over your shoulder and you see Pogba there.

"Big strong boy, the game’s going a bit flat, this is where - when he gets up to speed - he’ll have an influence on games. He’ll have a big part to play between now and the rest of the season.”
