Roy Keane sends Harry Maguire Manchester United captaincy advice

Manchester United great Roy Keane has offered his advice for Harry Maguire after the centre-back took over the captaincy following Ashley Young's departure.

The 34-year-old has joined Inter Milan and it has led to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirming Maguire as his club captain replacement.

It marks a massive vote of confidence for the 26-year-old, who has only been at the Reds since his £80 million move from Leicester City last summer.

Former United captain Keane has now explained how Maguire should approach his new role.

"It's all about the team. Don't be distracted by it, by the captaincy, enjoy it. You don't need the armband to be a leader but he does seem very proud of it,"  Keane told Sky Sports ahead of the clash against Liverpool.

"It is a big responsibility. I always try to focus on trying to be the best player in training, the best player on a weekend and hopefully the rest of the players will follow."

Keane also said that the move from Solskjaer to appoint Maguire as captain is a sensible one.

He added: "I think so (sensible move). I'm always concerned when a new player comes to a club and is given the captaincy, it doesn't say a lot about the other senior players at the club.

"He's an experienced player, he's a good age and he's going to be a regular in the team. He comes across as a good lad. It's a pretty sensible decision and he will have a big part to play, certainly."
