Roy Keane says some Manchester United players are simply 'not good enough' after Liverpool defeat

Roy Keane claimed that some of Manchester United’s player are simply ‘not good enough’ after Jose Mourinho’s side suffered a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

Liverpool outclassed Mourinho’s off-colour side throughout the contest and now trail Jurgen Klopp’s league leaders by 19 points.

However, rather than laying the blame for United’s listless form at the feet of manager, Keane said the problem stemmed from board’s failure to invest in the defenders Mourinho repeatedly asked for.

“I certainly believe some of the players for United are not good enough,” Keane told Sky Sports. ”They are so far behind [Manchester] City and Liverpool.

“Defensively they need to get a foundation, they were all over the place. They were found out today and that is a real concern for the future.”

Keane singled out Ander Herrera in particular for “not doing his job properly” after Sadio Mane breezed by the Spanish midfielder to create Liverpool’s decisive second goal.

“All these players are trying, they are doing their best,” Keane said. “But Herrera do your job properly, decision making is costing games.”

Paul Pogba was left on the bench for the entirety of the match at Anfield and Keane claimed it’s high-time United moved on the £89m midfielder so they can invest the transfer funds into new defenders.

“I think the players are giving everything. I think there’s one or two players not on top form, Pogba on the bench,” Keane added.

“Come the summer you move him on, he’s left United before. I just think they’re short, defensively they’re short.

“Man United, that’s where they’re at, I guess fourth is the best they can get. If you came down from the Moon and knew nothing about Manchester United, you’d think they were an average Premiership side.”
