Roy Keane says Manchester United players lack key attribute that Sir Alex Ferguson demanded

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane criticised the squad following the 1-0 defeat by Arsenal in the Premier League and identified a key trait that is missing from the days of Sir Alex Ferguson's reign.

United fell to a third defeat at home in the league this season after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tucked home from the penalty spot after Paul Pogba's foul on Hector Bellerin.

The result leaves United languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League with just seven points from their opening six matches. Their form in the league has been in stark contrast to their performances in the Champions League, where impressive victories against Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig have been recorded.

Keane believes that the performances in the league show that United are lacking courage and bravery in the squad, which was something Ferguson always used to demand from his side.

"Alex Ferguson always made the point about playing for Man United, you need courage to be a Man United player," he told Sky Sports. "Wanting the ball when you don’t really want it, you need bravery on that side, but bravery doesn’t necessarily mean going to nail somebody.

"Bravery is wanting possession, with fans on your back, or whatever it might be, the courage to pass the ball forward. We saw United players tonight taking the easy option.

"It’s very easy sitting up here with a cup of tea and a biscuit, judging everybody, but when you’re out there, they have to do better."
